I just melted in place. Good Red Velvet Cake is wonderful. There are WAY TOO MANY CHEAP IMITATIONS out there. Really. KFC's version in a bunt cake pan? Why Bother??

The real deal is firm and moist, and the frosting lush. The cake and frosting will slide past your lips, saturate your tongue with creamy, rich flavor, and slide down your throat effortlessly.

There is nothing else like it.

The cheap imitations are often dry and don't hit the mouth with the same rich sensations.

Go for the Waldorf Astoria Red Cake Recipe - Allrecipes.com kind of approach, but DON'T SKIMP on frosting. Possibly double the quantity.

Don't skip on any ingredient.
  • Do not use margarine .
  • Do not use splenda .
  • Do not use low-fat creme cheese .
  • Don't leave out the buttermilk .

Go for the gold ring.

Aside: You may get away with leaving out the red food coloring (it uses 2 ounces) but I wouldn't bother unless I ate it every week.

My mouth is watering as I write this.

My wife makes the absolute best red velvet cake/cream cheese icing on earth. It's absolutely deadly.

I'll see if I can get the recipe from her.
