Re: Beer Snob / Oxymoron?
I like dark beers - don't like Bud Light or <insert name here> light at all.
For beers you can get pretty much anywhere: Newcastle brown is probably my favorite. Negro Modelo dark is another one I really like. I will drink stouts or porters pretty regularly, too. I don't know if you can get these just everywhere, but I like Gordon Biersch beers, too. Of Gordon's, I like Winter Bock, Maibock and Marzen the best ... none of those are particularly dark, but they're still good.
When I travel, I usually like to try the local flavors. When I try those, I obviously don't know the beer since it's local, so it's usually the name that gets my attention when I order. Some of the more interesting names I've run across are:
Moose's tooth (In Anchorage, Alaska)
Moose's Drool (In Western Canada ... but I'm struggling to remember what city.)
Buttface Amber (In Denver, and also in Boise, Idaho. This is from Ram Brewery. The emblem on the bottle was of two rams with their heads butted together, but I'm sure the double entendre was part of the choice for names).
And my all time favorite name from travelling was in Salt Lake City. In Salt Lake City, you have to appreciate a beer named "Polygamy Porter." I wondered if they would serve the beer with several little shots on the side ...
Hey sis... I hate dark ales too. When dh cracks one open I always grab it 'cause it looks so frosty and good...he say, "Don't drink that; you won't like it," then I take a swig and make a horrid face.
Then he rolls his eyes and says, "Why do you do that?" lol
Mentally I'm like, "D*mnit, I'm gonna conquer that beer, " but dark ales taste to me like what I'd imagine someone's urine would taste like if they didn't drink any water for a month and then took a p*ss!
