fast food hamburger joint.

they have the best burgers.

when i worked at the airport in los angeles, flight attendants would fly in from dallas and would have orders from other people they worked with then go to in-n-out and get boxes of hamburgers for the other people in dallas.

they used to make bumper stickers that said

'in-n-out
burger'

we would cut off the b and r in burger.
then they quit making them

Anyone else do meal planning? Tonight is a blank for us - we do a month at a time - because he was supposed to curl early but turns out it's late instead. When he curls and I am home alone I like to wing it. ANYway. Last night we had tilapia with lemon pepper on it, couscous cooked in home made broth with cayenne and cumin, peas, and salad.

I have two Chef Michael Smith recipes on the meal plan for the coming week. I LOVE Chef Michael Smith

Once a week, I grab the grocery flyers and the coupons and we make a menu based on sales/savings

Flank steak was only $5.99/lb this week and I had a coupon for blue cheese-

so we're having a roulade tonight- I tenderize the steak, season it with red pepper and salt- throw some chopped walnuts and blue cheese on it and roll it up and tie it with butcher's twine. I then sear the outside and throw it in the oven.

Once done, I let it rest while I deglaze the pan with red wine and make a sauce. Slice up the roulades, plate them with the sauce on top and serve with yellow and green squash

one of my favorite dishes to make

My husband does 100% of the shopping and he does the same thing. I make whatever he brings home. He shops 1-2 times a week.

I only make a list for my baking needs since I like to make as much food as possible from scratch/homemade. The rest he picks up on his own.

We have a very big deep chest freezer. We will buy 4 big turkeys or hams when they are at the cheapest. I use the ham bone to make a homemade broth and soup, same with a whole chicken. We also use as much meat as possible and try not to throw it away.

We do our shopping together usually. I used to go with one or more of the kids till they left home. Teenagers that like grocery shopping with their mom - weird eh?

And we have a big freezer too! Plus two fridge freezers! Good thing because I don't throw ANYTHING out.
- All my peelings, rinds, ends etc. from veggies go into freezer bags for when I make broth, same with all the bones from chops, steaks and chicken that we eat. Anything that I can't use in my broth goes in the compost.
- We get our meat from the farm in big batches too.
- I tend to cook stuff in big batches for freezing, especially home made soups.
- Our daughter works at a bakery so we have a bunch of bread and buns in the freezer all the time.
- We pre-chop onions and peppers and freeze them to use in recipes, also we sometimes have pre cooked meat in there ready to use for stuff like tacos or stir frys
- my home made broth gets frozen in ice cube trays and then bagged and put back in the freezer.
