The sheer number of handguns would make that impossible.
In addition, the unbelievable amount of illegal narcotics, etc coming into this country has already set up a distribution network for weapons if needed.
There are also millions of legal, safe, careful gun owners that would be required to surrender their Constitutional Right because of the criminal behavior of an extreme minority. That is something we have already done enough of in this country.

OK, you screwed up, it happens. Now apologize. But apologize just once. Make it loud, clear, short, to the point, and directly to those you trespassed against. Then move on.

Mine is an idealistic view. The reality would be incredibly difficult to follow through I have said this. I don't believe your gun laws will change based on this alone.
I do however, think something needs to be done to tighten your laws. But perhaps at this rate there is no point you already have something like over 250 million guns in your country. Wow.
Almost Recovered (I would call you AR but not sure if we have progressed to that level) I see that you haven't "liked" any of my posts. I'm a little offended. You may not agree with me but everyone wants to be "liked". I'm feeling a little alone in my corner.
Actually I believe the number of guns is somewhere around 380,000,000.
But that kind of makes the point. 380 Million guns, but gun crime is actually going down. Murder rates are going down. Sexual assaults are going down.
A single school tragedy does not illustrate the issue. Just like a single plane crash is horrific, flying is still among the safest ways to travel.
There is no coincidence that mass shooting almost always happen in "Gun Free Zones". Gun Free Zones are the newest laws to prohibit shootings. They hang a sign that says, "hey shooter, nobody but you will be carrying a gun here"

I like you
I like that you are passionate about a problem and and show deep concern that that the violence among children is a major problem
I just highly disagree with the manner of going about it

May I ask why you as an Aussie feel it is so important for the US to follow the legal trends of your country and others? Is Oz that much of a utopia that there are no problems there that you should be worrying about? What is with this obsession that Aussies, Canadians and Brits have with wanting us to change our laws to suit their tastes? Posted via Mobile Device

Sorry I don't know what manner I'm going about it? I was just really curious as to your own opinions. I'm sorry if I offended anybody, especially as I am very much aware I don't live there. It's more about the school shootings that gets me going, and seeing it on tv. Ever since having my own daughter things like that really, really upset me in a big way. I guess I'm looking for solutions to it, and maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.

as far as wanting tighter laws and restrictions on what I believe to be rights
it's fine that you want bigger government to solve problems and that is your to right to feel that way, I just disagree with the philosophy- no biggie
I hope you don't feel as though I am trying to back you into a corner gratitude.
I thought of it as a discussion.
No LOL it's my thread, if I can't answer questions or take the heat then don't post! I don't feel knowledgeable enough to back up questions asked about politics and governments though. It was more what was your view actually living there about your gun laws. I really couldn't understand it. Different cultures but it's great to hear different sides.

It's not that I want bigger governments to solve problems, but they have the power to change laws if it is really necessary. I guess that is my question. Do you think it is necessary that your guns laws should be changed? If so, then the government are in a position to do that. Not if you think they have the right to change it, but DO you personally think the gun laws should be changed to any degree?

One thing this country (and yours, I'm sure) has is the 24 hour news cycle.
It's called "Feeding the Beast". A story that gets ratings, gets airtime. The more airtime, the more ratings. A school shooting has all the elements of huge news ratings. Cops, crying kids, crying parents, etc. It is a tragedy and no one wants to make light of it. But to "Feed the Beast" it goes into weeks long around the clock, news cycle.
It is much the same as a single criminal trial that gets huge coverage, even though there are hundreds of trails, and dozens for the exact same crime.
The way a single persons disappearance gets wall to wall coverage, even though there are hundreds of missing persons.
