Careful - you're slurring your typing....

Beefeater Gin, rocks, two olives for me as a co@ktail.

So who knows the derivation of "two sheets to the wind"?

This is what I found.
three sheets in the wind and three sheets (to the wind); two sheets to the wind
Inf. intoxicated and unsteady. (Sheets are the ropes used to manage a ship's sails. It is assumed that if these ropes were blowing in the wind, the ship would be out of control.) He had gotten three sheets to the wind and didn't pay attention to my warning. By midnight, he was three sheets.

Drunken posting - wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

Later I will have a couple of Rickards Red before supper, then after I'll be mixing spiced rum with mango tangerine juice and sparkling water. It's only 3:30 here and I"m still at work.

I seem to be into the mango lately.

Here's a useful link to an etiological/etymological explanation for the expression. Seafaring terminology and slang -- if all three of your sails are flapping in the wind, you're as unsteady as it gets, and letting your sheets (ropes of control for sails) go to the wind (no longer in check, flapping and flailing), indicates relinquishing your hold on your steadiness. Sailor slang gives you a gradient to consider: 1 sheet = tipsy<4 sheets = unconscious.

Catspaws, Drag, Soup to Nuts, Another Whack at Posh, Three Sheets to the Wind, and Cold Turkeys Falling Off the Wagon.

Personally, I'm drinking coffee and trying to finish writing 30 pages today while fighting off the blues.

Y'all are no fun at all. I grew up on the water and knew it already. I was wanting to impress everyone with my salty nautical knowledge - sometimes I hate google.

Awww. Sorry to be a kill-joy. Maybe you can tell us if sea-farers actually use this expression?
