OK so Browncoat suggested I come on here for a lil motivation, so here I am. For the first time in my life, I am considered OVERWEIGHT!
So, I am 42, have never ever HAD to lose weight before, but I do now.
I read one of TGs earliest posts in this thread that said now that she said it, she felt she had to do it. I had been considering publisizing my own regime/committment on FB, because then I'd be held accountable. I lost the gumption to do that, however, because I have a b!tchy cousin, and I don't need her 'starting'. But I still might, complete with before and after (or progressive) photos.
Here we go!
IMO the hardest part is starting. I know many do fancy diets and exercise regimens... and they are probably way better than what I do.
Guess I'm just old school, I like the whole: exercise more and eat less strategy... while making sure what I eat is healthy.
I just want to have a diet and exercise program I want to be a part of my life, not some bizarre celery + cucumber (made that up) diet.
Still I've lost 10 lbs and gained muscle/tone in the past few weeks so can't complain.
My 7 mile walk turned into an 8 mile walk. Took me 2 hours to do it so that is walking 4 mph right? 3.5 of those miles was on gravel roads which is hilly, do I get extra points for that? lol probably not.
Have a question though. What do you all eat before and after you exercise? I made the mistake of going on my walk on an empty stomach and felt kind of weak by the time I got home, little dizzy too. Had a PB and J sandwich when I got home. Drinking plenty of water (I only drink water or tea).

I do this. Folks probably wonder why I share this but it does exactly what you are suggesting. Just that little extra incentive. Since I have been doing this I have seen many of my FB friends doing the same.

Hehe, I'll give ya 1 million browncoat points... such as their worth.

I tend to eat at least 20 minutes before working out if I can help it. That way your food has settled, but your by no means hungry.
If I work out mid day, I try to have a small snack, preferably with protein that's easy on the stomach. I'm kind of fond of non-fat Greek yogurt myself (though I get it slightly flavored with fruit): Greek Yogurt & Weight Loss | LIVESTRONG.COM
lol thanks for the "browncoat" points ... I walked 7 miles in flip flop shoes on Wednesday, BAD idea but I still made it in under 2 hours.
Thanks for the tip on when to eat. I love yogurt and almost all fruits and veggies. Going to get my garden started for the year soon. I think the threat of frost is finally gone ...
So my eating is healthy, all I really have to do is get off my arse and go! I have a gym at work, plus I am joining the big one in my hood, bonus: I can walk there in under 30 minutes. I love to cycle, love love love, and can go a good 25-30kms...so all it has to do now is warm up!
I've had a few false starts with the exercise, so now I have to make it so. Perhaps the FB idea after all, just restrict my b!tchy cousin...!
I love biking too. When I lived in California I used to bike to work almost every day (except if the weather was terrible, which wasn't often).
I used to take an extra long route on the way up the first ridge of hills (many on the east coast would swear they were mountains... but lol y'all don't know real mountains). The view from up on the hill was incredible, simply a wonderful way to begin the day.
Now in North Carolina, the roads have absolutely NO shoulders. It's pretty much 1 inch from painted line that marks lane end and rough ground (or just trees). I see folks biking, but man so many blind turns and curves... nope not that interested in dying.

My big sister lives in North Carolina, when I have gone over to visit her, I like to walk to the shops, I get lots of strange look, like what's that crazy Brit doing walking on the road, no such thing as a pavement on most roads
My mid life rebirth is going very well, it's just over a week since I quite smoking, I have upped my exercise in the gym, I am doing just over 50 mins cardiac work. and quite a lot of strength work 5 times a week at the gym, the inches are going but the weight is being a little stubborn.
I must say this is the best I have felt for years, my confidence is coming back not to mention my self esteem, I am a tall well built guy, and for once in my life I am starting fulfilling my physical potential (if you know what i mean)
Summary: Muscle density is 1.06 g/ml and fat density is (about) 0.9g/ml. Thus, one liter of muscle would weight 1.06 kg and one liter of fat would weight 0.9 kg. In other words, muscle is about 18% denser than fat.
BlueMoon! you're a Brit!! woo hoo!!
and a Man City fan - be my friend, I'm a Happy Hammer!
I am that Dolly, A Man City fan born and bred Good luck to the hammers on Monday, a 2nd team for me, I once lived in East ham many years ago.
Anyway, thanks for the link Browncoat, it was strange at first, I have lost over 50 lbs since New Year (another 16 to go) but this week all my clothes seemed a lot looser, to the point that people were commenting, but on the scales no change, 50 lbs is a lot but I am 6 ft 3 and very broad so the weight was spread all around me
I love the mountains but not sure I would be brave enough to ever ride my bike in them. The slight chance that I would make it up one of those 'hills' would be miracle enough but then there is the coming back down!!! That would terrify me and not sure my brakes on my bike would handle it. I have only been to the Rockies and LOVE Colorado. Hopefully my husband and I will venture out and see more of the United States this year.
