Taxes ... ugh
Just a rant.
I just finished my taxes for 2011, and ... My taxes are more than DOUBLE the median income for the US. It's still significantly less than the average income of a federal government worker in the US, though. MORE THAN DOUBLE THE MEDIAN!!!
I know you can say I should be thankful I have a job, and a well paying job at that, and I know you're right, but that's still a lot of money and at a time when we're told that only about half of the people in the US pay any federal taxes. And just think, what I paid still does not pay anywhere near the average annual income of a single federal government worker ...
I was a resident of California for 59 days of 2011 and ... don't even get me started on how much I had to pay for those 59 days I was a resident there. All I can say is that I'm glad I moved out. They're making no real effort to reign in their spending ... neither is the US government for that matter.
So as much as I pay during the year, at the end of the year, having filed my taxes, I find I will have to pay almost another $4,000 next week ...
$#%^& ... I'm just venting as I usually need to do at tax time ... or at least I've needed to do the last few years ... I feel a little better now, not a lot, but a little ...
I don't really want to get into politics, but you can probably guess I have some pretty strong opinions about how the government budgets need to be scrutinized as closely as businesses scrutinize their budgets ...
It's just all bullsh1t. The amount of taxes we pay when we can barely meet our bills and we don't qualify for ANY help, but I have friends who do qualify for help and get back 8,000 in refunds and we OWE MONEY and we're working our asses off.
Ok. end rant. LOL time to go to the park and play!

Tax time .... UGH!
Look on the bright side.
Paying taxes means you made money.
You don't really want to change positions with those 47% who didn't pay taxes, because that means you would not have made as much.
Especially if your tax liability is double the median income.
But if it makes you feel better, I will trade income and taxes with you right now.
They took out a garnish on Hubs check this month. !/2 his check for back pay. He already makes half of what he used to make so we couldn't pay mortgage this month.
We make money, I guess, but for CA, it's not that much. we just get raped in taxes...
But corporations don't ahve to pay d1ck! They owe so much and don't have to pay, but they come after my husband for 1/2 his check.

I see the bright side, but I'm not letting our governments off the hook with that. They can stop the sloganing and become responsible with the money, including government positions or niceties that most other organizations would have to say "It's nice, but we just can't afford it" about.
I have stories about those who had party stories while I had night-school stories and my wife had "I can't because I have extra work so my husband can go to night school" stories. But once you get to that goal, you find you're treated very differently from those who had the party stories while you had those night school stories .
But all of that is getting into the politics I don't want to get into I suppose.

Corporations pay it, too. With the size of the deficits that governments run on, there is a point where there is not enough income to cover the government extravagance.
I need to step away like you are doing . Let's see if I can, now that I've gotten it started .
thats because 90% of the residence in CA are illegal aliens and not on the government books so they have to try and get all their wasting money from the few hard workers who ARE on the government books.
and the dems arent going to upset that apple cart.

We got hammered too. We have kids but claim no exemptions on our W-2. I have a set amount of additional funds withheld for state and fed and still I get the Uncle Sam Shakedown in April. "Uncle Sam wants your retirement savings, tuition for the kids, vacation fund....."
I got a HUGE refund which actually pissed me off. It means my brother withheld too much tax throughout the year (he does the accounting for our business) and that was money I could've used.

Oh and don't forget that if you have kids in college, the student loan rate will double in July. Part of the funding for our "health care" program as congress took over a private industry to help fund it. Less than a year later the interest rate doubles. Big government at work. Sheesh! Sorry, I'm pissy this afternoon.

Glad to hear some people out there actually understand what a refund is.
