Re: If you put lipstick on a douche, he's still a douche
I'm one of those people who will never understand either the appeal or the strange praise lavished on Glenn Close. I don't get it.
And while Meryl Streep is the duchess of American drama isn't she just a glorified character actor who's talent is to become what we would expect some other character to be? For example her portrayal of Maggie Thatcher is Maggie Thatcher, no more no less. It's not dramatic, it's simply a copy of what we expect Maggie Thatcher was.

Michael Douglas - so much promise so much wasted effort. Other than Falling Down I don't think he's played a character who wasn't a late middle aged rich guy who's morally blank.

I will never like Jason Schwartzman and I'm a big fan of Bored to Death. I'm always saying "Just DO something".
Maybe it has to do with I hate Wes Anderson who's basically pulling a joke on his audience by repeatedly making movies that are so horrible you're left thinking you're the one who's too dumb to get it.

Isn't that the point? She was playing an actual person, so she mimicked her perfectly? If she went outside the box then it wouldn't have been believable. People wanted to see who the real Maggie Thatcher was, so that's what they got.

The Jennifer Aniston bashing around the world really gets to me.
She is a woman who had miscarriages in her marriage, then her husband left her because he wanted to have a family and moved on (whilst married) to a seemingly manipulative woman who then proceeded to have a million children. As a woman, a person, for Jen like any of us that would have been heartbreaking. Then even better is to have it plastered all over the world, and every step in her life dramatised and she is constantly depicted in a way she didn't ask her.
She plays the good girl role mostly because that is what she is offered. I think she was extremely funny in 'Friends' and is a talented, natural actor.
Angelina gets offered the kick ass, fighting roles. Because that is what she can get across on screen. I'm certainly not going to relate to her on a personal level.

But that's not why I want to see a dramatic movie.

Nicholas Cage. He has a mouth-breathing aura about him I can't stand.
Johnny Depp (dodging spears and arrows here) I read once on a blog this woman claimed she used to wait on him when he would frequent a store she worked at, and she said he had greasy hair with big dandruff chunks in it. Bleech.
Tom Cruise. Good actor but never thought he was handsome, even in his Top Gun Days. Now give me Val Kilmer's mouth to snack on and I'm good.
