I am full blooded Hungarian and can pick a Hungarian out of a crowd or by listening to how their families work. I was wondering if we have any Hungarians here so we could compare notes.
In my experience (I am 3rd generation American), dysfunctional families run rampant in Hungary, even my own. I am trying to see if it is a cultural thing.
Not Hungarian but I lived with a family from there when I was a kid for a couple of years. They escaped the East during the revolution,1956 I believe. They were a close family, though the mom was kind of tightly wound once in awhile and did have to go away for a bit.The father was a confident easy going man who was a case-worker for the Children's Aid Society. The 2 sons were over achievers and both had an artistic bent. One was at the music conservatory here and the other was a wood carver.
They were very church centered as the father and oldest son both played the organ and sang in the choir.I really enjoyed my time at church when I was there, especially the feast day of Ste. Elizabeth of Hungary and all the festivities that went with it.If memory serves me correctly they didn't celebrate Christmas in quite the same way.Less of Santa Claus and more St.Nicholas and good king Wenceslaus.
Hope you don't mind my post as I'm not Hungarian, but they helped shape some of the better aspects of my character.Though the mother had a few trying times I found them to be a hard working, loving and generous family.I don't think I'm spelling this right, but I just want to say "chokaleum" Hope I'm not too far off and said something bad.Oh well,be good.

im probably the biggest mutt you can find.
have a little bit of everything in me.
now if i can just get a little ON me, i would be fine.
