The best part is that it was at a small park a few miles from where we first met.
We did the whole wedding on the cheap because I had just graduated from college a year before and was basically broke.
So we had friends BBQ meat on a huge grill. Turns out that after the sun set up in the mountains in May it got really freaking cold... so people were really eager to sit near that grill.
We had so many families come up to us after our honeymoon and tell us what a terrific time they had. It was clear too they meant it.
Funny story. One family in particular has 8 kids (we still keep in touch), and for their youngest two this was their first wedding. So they got this impression that all weddings were these really fun outdoor events. Well we were baby sitting for their kids just a couple of months after our own wedding. It happened to be that two other really close friends of ours (who were engaged just one week after us) were getting married.
So we had to take all 8 kids to this wedding (fortunately they were super well behaved kids). The youngest two, especially the little girl, was sooooo excited to go. The problem was that unlike our wedding theirs was this ultra-traditional Scottish wedding in a chapel. Bag pipes, ceremony the whole bit.
You could see the thrill quickly evaporate from their faces, and then continue onto dismay, then to boredom and finally tears from being so desperately bored and disappointed. My wife and I kept looking at each other and smiling, but feeling sad for the kids at the same time... it was cute.
Anyway sorry long diversion.
