Nevada Falls in Yosemite National Park. Only hikers get to see this falls from this vantage point.

To hike to the top, most (including us) take the stairs on the trail that runs up the left side of this falls. You can't seen the trails from this vantage point, but they are there, and hikers are ascending even in this picture.

According to Wikipedia, Nevada Falls is 594 feet (181 meters) from brink to bed.

EDIT: Adding in a picture taken of the brink of Nevada falls. If you're like me, you can't come this far and not get close to it.

Bridalveil Falls inside Yosemite National Park in California. This picture is taken from near the parking place. You can get this view without hiking, but to really get wet in that icy spray, you need to hike in a short walk.

According to Wikipedia, Bridalveil falls is 617 feet (188 meters) from brink to bed.

Vernal falls inside Yosemite National Park in California. Only hikers get to see this view. We hiked up the "Mist trail" which is almost directly beneath where I am standing when I took this picture. Mist Trail is very well named ... as the rides in the amusement parks say: You WILL get wet! ... if you hike up in the springtime, that is. These falls run dry in late summer.

Vernal Falls is directly downstream from Nevada Falls which I posted earlier. If you want to hike to see both of these, just understand you WILL gain a lot of altitude going from the bottom to the brink of Nevada falls even. You can gain a lot more if you continue to the summit of Half Dome.

According to Wikipedia, Vernal Falls is 317 feet high (97 meters). Yes, those are people on the right side of the falls.

I don't even know the name of this waterfall. It is also in Yosemite National Park. It is directly across the valley from Bridalveil falls:

There are only very few places where you can capture Yosemite Falls and catch any part of the upper and lower falls together. You can see most of it from the road, but for the absolutely breathtaking views, you need to hike. This is in Yosemite National Park in California.

According to Wikipedia, it is 2425 feet from the brink of the upper falls to the base of the lower falls. Of that, the upper falls are 1430 feet (440 meters), the cascades connecting them are 675 feet (206 meters) and the lower falls are 320 feet (98 meters). All together, it is the tallest waterfall in North America.

Nooksack falls in the Mt. Baker National Forest in the Northern Cascade range in Northern Washington, USA. This is a glacier fed stream. When you see it above the falls, it has the sliver-blue color of the glacial silt.

I could not get all of this in one picture, so as you can see, this is an uncropped panorama.

According to Wikipedia, Nooksack Falls is 88 feet (27 meters). The forest is very dense here. There are very few places where you can get a clear view of the falls. It's' not far from the road, but you have to hike a shor distance and down some pretty steep trail to get to this vantage point.

Lon, I did not know that was there. I think that is driving distance for me. I'm going to have to pay it a visit. Thank you for that.

Apologies ... when I look at my Nooksack picture, it's getting so large, I can't get it onto a screen when I post it here. It fits when I look at the original. It's it intolerable? Do I need to shrink it and re-post? Maybe others as well?

EDIT: If you want to zoom out, in IE, you can push ctrl- (minus) and to zoom in it is ctrl-+ (plus).

I couldn't wait, so until I get back home at least, I'll post someone else's picture of these waterfalls. These falls are SO beautiful.

This is Upper Mesa Falls inside Targhee National Forest in Eastern Idaho. I saw the view, and have pictures from many angles other than just this one from the brink, but it is a good pic ... even if it is someone else's

And lower Mesa Falls:

See, I just gotta learn to shrink my photos. My problem is that I see it big, and in all it's spendor, and the more I shrink it, the more it loses perspective for me ... I gotta learn how to capture the perspective ... but I'm always disappointed in the pictures after seeing the real thing.

shy guy, the Island is definitely worth spending a few weeks exploring, so many natural wonders there that they all start seeming insignificant when you love there for long. Everything in California is so much bigger, redwood forests, yosemite falls, but the island is just so abundant. Now I live in the bald prairie and though it can be pretty here especially in summer time its nothing like the west coast. I am grateful my folks moved back to the Island from the Okanagan (though it is pretty spectacular there too) now when I visit I can just enjoy all those awesome little places I got to know when I lived out there.

Here is a little pic I took a couple winters ago of the only "waterfall" in my town (besides the storm sewer outfalls) in the spring this thing is almost completely underwater.

The Weir, this was the very last piece of ice hanging on:

We got married in Niagara Falls, on 9-10-11; everyone knows what they look like!

Love the falls, majestic.

Waimea Falls on the North Shore of Oahu. This picture is also not mine. Our trip out to Waimea falls is where we ran into Heather Locklear (I didn't know who she was) getting ready to film that day on "Flirting with 40." I can't post our pics from that day because our faces are very prominent in all of my pictures from that day.
