Default Interesting words

I thought I'd start this since several have expressed a fascination with language and words. This thread is for the words you find interesting. It would be good if you told what was interesting about the word. I'll go first:

Sequoia (Also spelled Sequoyah). I find it interesting because it is one of the few Cherokee words that have found their way into the mainstream English language. Most who know a little bit about Cherokee History know that Sequoia was the name of the man who invented the Cherokee Syllabary, and so created a way for the Cherokee language to be written.

The word "Sequoia" actually means "Sparrow."

"Sequoia" is written in the Cherokee Syllabary as: ᏎᏉᏯ

On my business trip to Serbia 2 years ago, the people I worked with told me that Serbia has given the world only one thing that we all remember: Vampire.

I guess if you're only going to give one thing, make it a good one!

Volume viscosity is written in the following algebraic expression
Attachment 796

where U is volume viscosity coefficient some apply the alternative term bulk viscosity for the same parameter however it disappears for incompressible fluid when the divergence of the flow equals 0

actually I am just messing with ya hun

Whew... thanks man I always that bit about delta being squared in addition to being multiplied by mu and V. That really cleared that part of for me!

The rest of that equation though.. I mean how could it not be the way it is?? seriously.

My grandpa once told me that "Vegetarian" was an old Cherokee word that meant "Bad Hunter." ... I don't think I'm buying that one, though.

My grampa used to tease us all the time:

"If it's good, why do you say it's bad?"

"If it's not gross, why do you say it's sick?"

"Do you even know what awesome means? It definitely doesn't have to do with anything regarding a skateboard."

And my gramma always told us to have a gay time. Will do, grams.
