Default West Coast Ocean Temperatures

Planning the summer activities ... It looks like if we went to the beach (not the Sound, but the Ocean), summer ocean temps are pretty comparable along the Washington Coast to what we had around the Bay Area:

US NODC Coastal Water Temperature Guide

US NODC Coastal Water Temperature Guide

Which is not to say that it's warm of course, but since I've swam all around Northern California, even Bodega Bay, it looks possible here. Do many people swim on the beaches in WA and Oregon. I see some friends' pictures that look like they at least wade in Oregon, but the pictures I see of Washington, people are just digging for razor clams or such such ...

Up to my thighs, that's it. Adore everything about the ocean except the temperature.
Someone's never dipped her lady bits in the Caribbean.

As for the Pacific Ocean anywhere along the west coast of the US, can you say... shrinkage?

Well, if you want to think about it like that, just imagine being a man and going swimming in that water ... talk about "going into hiding" ... You better hope you have enough butt to hold your trunks up because you're not going to get any help from anything else ... If you did lose your trunks, though, no worry about fish - there's not enough exposed to serve as bait ...

It's all okay, though. There's going to be some time separation between swimming and any activity where that might matter. By that time, everything will recover ...

Seriously, though, when we swam or body boarded in northern California, when we got out of the water, at first, I couldn't feel the sand beneath my feet. The feeling would come back in a few minutes . One thing for sure, you want to stay plenty active while you're in the water ...

Anywhere in Washington will be freaking cold. The only possibility in Oregon is in Brookings, right on the CA border. If you do go there, the Best Western on the beach is really nice.

The ocean isn't all that warm, but it can easily hit 100F and then the ocean is OK.

When I was a kid, we used to go to Santa Cruz (and beaches nearby the boardwalk) a lot. The water would be so cold that my lips would turn blue at times. I remember my dad calling me out of the water because he could tell I was cold and I'd answer with a shivering jaw like this: "n-n-n-n-o-o-o d-d-d-a-a-a-d-d-d I-i-i'm-m-m f-f-fine" *and feign smile*.

Ah good times. When I dated my wife I started visiting San Diego for the first time (we always traveled north as a kid). I was surprised that even down in SD and La Jolla the water is still cold, even in the late summer.

LOL you want to feel bathwater... man here in North Carolina. You can sit in that water all day and not feel the slightest bit cold.
