I can deal with all the insects and spiders. No problem there. For me it's rattlesnakes!!! They can be so big and deadly--and tend to turn up outside when I least expect it. Absolutely hate them!

Spent years in pest control (family business for a time).

Roaches suck. Every itch on me after a dirty trash place infested with roaches freaked me out. Its called SANITATION people. Clean your damn house!! If you are infested with german ****roaches its because you are a slob. End of story. Infested. Not you saw a couple. And that is German roaches, not Orientals (waterbugs to some people) or American (palmetto bugs down south) Those are very common in and around clean homes.

Only other thing that can come close to roaches are fleas. Luckily could count on 1 hand the number of bad flea jobs I ever did. All the drops and collars for pets have cut them down a ton. However if people do have fleas, they are all over your legs in a couple minutes.

I went outside the other night to turn off the sprinkler. There were hundreds of moths swarming our porch light. I kid you not, there were no many that I could hear them. They were dive bombing as well. It freaky.. like “THE MOTHS” instead of “THE BIRDS”.

This year we have moths everywhere. It’s weird.

A person can have roaches not be filthy. I rented a house many years ago. It was completely empty but the first time I was there at night, I turned on the garage light and there were tons of roaches running all over the place trying to get out of the light. They mostly stayed in the garage.

I got some kind of roach killer that had roach birth control in it. within a couple of months there were no more roaches.

We have bats. I like them, they suppress the bugs.

Note I said GERMAN roaches. Little suckers with two dark spots on the pronotum.

There are Oriental, American, Smoky brown, Wood roaches etc etc. Many of those would go for a cool potentially somewhat damp place like a garage. Those are very common and not all ways associated with sanitation issues.

On one show of infested... these people had german roaches in their apartment because of an old couple living next to them... The roaches got so bad in the old couples house that they spread out to other places... infesting the neighbors regardless of how clean their place was.

I abhor rats, mice, and roaches.

All three of which we found ourselves dealing with in our Brooklyn brownstone. It wasn't an infestation, but it was enough to get me out there looking for real solutions that involved repelling these creatures, not just managing their increasingly frequent guest appearances.

Two things worked miracles for us.

Rodents - 100% Peppermint Oil (it must be 100%, and it must be oil, not extract). It's extremely potent, burns the nostrils of rodents, thus repelling them, and is safe for all (save cats). Dab a few drops on cotton balls, and/or dilute an ounce in a cup of water in a spray bottle, and apply to places in your home that are known infestation points. Refresh once a month, if that. It's a real miracle. We haven't seen a single rodent in our apartment in a year, nor any of the tell tale signs. And it makes your house smell like Christmas year round.

Roaches - NYC roaches (I'm talking specifically about the American species) are basically as big as small children, with armor. Seriously, you can smash one with a shoe, hard, and half the time it will shake that off, and keep right on chucking. We were use to seeing an occasional one every couple months, but then after some bad rains they were popping up daily, sometimes more than once daily. Usually just one at a time, but it was enough, and my wife was at her whits end.

Amazon.com: Advion Roach Gel Bait 30 Gram 2 Tubes 666301: Patio, Lawn & Garden

This stuff is the real deal. It works within days. We haven't seen a single ****roach in months.

Moths freak me out too. Especially the big ones. I swallowed one once and I just can't abide them flying anywhere near me now.
