| Little girls' rhymes
I drove past a field this morning where some young girls (maybe 10 - 12) are playing softball. I heard one of the teams doing one of their little rhymes. I couldn't hear what they were saying, but that took me back and brought a smile to my face. It seems that boys have their action noises when playing with their cars or planes, etc. Girls always seems to have a rhyme for jumping rope, clapping hands with each other, playing softball ... whatever they're doing.
A few of the funnier ones I remember from my daughter playing softball. I'm sure there are as many of these are there are teams who have used them, but these are the versions I remember:
We don't play with barbie dolls
we play with our bats and balls
We don't dress in mini skirts
We wear dirty softball shirts
We don't go to shopping malls
We come here to to play some ball
<directed toward the opposing pitcher or catcher>
She stole on you
oh yes she stole on you
While you were picking you nose
she was booking on her toes
and she stole on you
Imagine all the 10 - 12 year old girls lined up against the fence in the dugout chanting at the other team now in the field:
We bad, we know it
and this is how we show it
(now turning their backs to the other team, sticking their butts out and shaking them)
saying na-na-na-na-na boo-sha boo-sha
na-na-na-na-na-na boo-sha boo-sha
(turn back to face the other team and start from the top)
I'm sure we have some rope jumpers, ball players ... people with some funny little rhymes they'd like to share.
