Does anyone eat home cooked meals at home on a regular basis? The number of restaurants today amazes me. How can that many restaurants stay in business? Are that many people really not eating at home? There is a nearby town with a pop of 14,000. Some friends and I counted 40 restaurants, and we probably missed some. There are sections of town with nothing but restaurants. It makes me wonder why modern house plans even bother to have kitchens.
I had a college professor once say we had more restaurants in that town that they had in the entire state he was from. He didn't expand, but it made me wonder if it's that way everywhere.
My grandparents operated a farm and actually had 3, yes 3, cooked meals each day and there was a dinner bell in the lawn. I know that can't happen today with both people working away from home, but their generation around here did it. When I was a kid, we sat down to a home cooked meal each evening. I miss the days of what I call a good old fashioned fried chicken with a platter of wings, legs, thigh, breast, etc. sitting in the middle of the table. It seems nobody does that anymore. Its always chicken strips of some sort. Blah.

Re: Do you eat home cooked meals at home regularly?
Money dictates we eat at home. Feeding a family of 5 out is pricey.
That said we probably do average one meal out a week but my goal is to lower that. Such a waste of money not to mention unhealthy and fattening. The portion sizes are rediculous.
Re: Do you eat home cooked meals at home regularly?
We eat at home or make meals at home to take out the vast majority of the time.
We tend to get pizza each Friday night for family night (sometimes ordered out sometimes homemade). Even then often times my wife will whip up something fun for the kids like home made corn dogs.
I say we eat out a maximum of 2 meals a week, often times just one meal out, and sometimes no meals out.
The rest are almost always cooked at home, though once in a while my wife will throw in a frozen lasagna, heat up Taquitos or Fish sticks. Still even then we have a good serving of veggies as well (which the kids are required to eat each and every meal).
My wife experiments and changes what she cooks often, though we do have certain meals she cooks more regularly.
I should mention we do have cereal a lot for breakfast during the week, which is also processed.

We go out to eat average once a month, which is usually to celebrate a holiday.
For a while there we were going out up to twice a week. I'm trying to pinch every last penny to have a large downpayment on our next home, so that had to stop. Posted via Mobile Device

I eat lunch out most every day. We eat supper at home as a family virtually every night. Go out for supper only on special occasions (birthdays, anniversary, etc.). We do get take out maybe once a month or so.

Eat at home all the time. Maybe once a month we will eat out.
I do wonder sometimes if it's cheaper to eat out more. I'm talking pizza or fast food. Seems we could pick up enough taco bell or pizza hut for less than $20 to feed us all, for a whole day. We average about $150 - $200 a week at the grocery store, that's for everything though including dog/cat food. BUT I love our home cooked meals... It's great bonding time and it's mmmmmm good, wouldn't trade it for the world

That's awesome! Love hearing stories of folks saving money for something really wise like buying their home.
@Lamaga - We are the same way actually, we really try to avoid all processed food. We aren't militant about it, in that on occasion we will... but even when we do by premanufactured we really look closely over the list of ingredients. We do make some allowances for things like cheerios and corn flakes, but still we try and keep the sugar intake for our children to a low level.
