Sounds like the War of 1812 too except for the bayonets. Since our last victory agains the US on the battlefield we now only re-live the win at junior and international hockey tournaments
Who won?
The Canadian's didn't lose territory. Yet the United States didn't either. Land wise it was a complete draw.
The US started the war because the British were enslaving their sailors, the British were imposing tariffs and the British were aiding the Indians to attack the US. The British quit doing all three so that was certainly a success on the American side.
The Canadians got an agreement for the US to stop aiding attacks against the Canadians so that was a success for them.
Dolly is quite clearly a Southern babe and I am a Northern lass
To us that's poles apart - however each time I have been to the States, someone has asked me if I know their friend/relative/colleague that lives in some village or other 200 miles from me
Why is that ?
I had some work acquaintances from Belgium who visited Milwaukee WI. and thought they'd make a "quick trip" to see Mt. Rushmore. They drove all day the right direction, and around 5 PM realized they were less than 1/2 the way there.
Too bad the Brits carved that stuff up the way they did though. LOL.
Not that it really mattered. What a mess.
Then again the Brits shook up the whole freakin planet. I mean they love Cricket in India. The influence around the world is astounding.
The British had a small hand at creating the major messes of the world.
Look at the former British colonies and you'll find mostly stable countries.
The Spanish and Portuguese did OK too. Mainly because the Spanish and Portuguese interbred with the natives, and it's really hard to hate either side when you're 1/2 of each.
The really screwed up places were due to the Dutch and the French.
