We learned this from the British who learned it from the Romans. No joke.
Well not trying to side track things, but a claim could be made that America learned how to fight from the Prussians (Germans) at Valley Forge.
The British also hired the Saxons (Germans) to protect them from Picts and others when the Romans left (leaving quite a power vacuum). The Saxons in turn ended up taking over when the English failed to pay (history suggests the English never had the money to begin with). The Saxons ended up pretty much in charge until the Norman invasion.
So it could be said that the Brits and the Americans were taught to break things by the Germans.

Sounds like the War of 1812 too except for the bayonets. Since our last victory agains the US on the battlefield we now only re-live the win at junior and international hockey tournaments - it must also be why we tolerate fisticuffs in that sport - punching someone repeatedly in the head only lands a 2 minute time-out, in non-canadian sports it would be a season suspension. I mean even the brits can't handle our amazing ruggedness - we would never have a sporting match at a venue that requires an all-white dress code, well except during playoffs sometimes, sea-of-white.
Dolly is quite clearly a Southern babe and I am a Northern lass
To us that's poles apart - however each time I have been to the States, someone has asked me if I know their friend/relative/colleague that lives in some village or other 200 miles from me
