Exclamation HELP! Health Question!

I've been on levothyroxine for about 2 months now. I started off on 25 mcg the first month, while also switching from Ortho Tri Cyclen (7 day period usually) bc pill, to Loestrin 24fe (4 day period) *Ladies, i think you all know what im talking about with the pills* Anyway, the first month on levothyroxine and the new bc pill, i started spotting on day 21 of my pill pack, as i normally would on Ortho tri cyclen, and had just a longer period that month. (The loestrin has only 4 inactive pills, so your periods shorter) But this month, my levothyroxine was upped to 38 mcg, and im on the 3rd inactive pill with only 1 left in the pack, and havent started my period yet. Did the levothyroxine interfere with my period and cause it to be late? Or just my hypothyroidism itself? Please help, im kinda freaking out. Ive taken my bc pills correctly, so im not getting too scared of being pregnant. I really feel its the levo. Hope this isnt too confusing. Thanks for the help in advance!!!!

All I know is i hate pills and tend to forget to take them if I ever have any I am "suppose" to take. I plan on taking some other form of BC.

I have hypothyroidism and also take thyroid replacement hormone.

Yes, both hypothyroidism and subsequent thyroid replacement hormone dosage changes can mess with a woman's cycle - in some it shortens the time between cycles, in some it lengthens the time between cycles, some may bleed more, some less.

If you are adding hormonal birth control changes at the same time you are having dosing changes with thyroid replacement hormone, then I am not surprised that you may be experiencing changes in your cycle.

When do you go back to your doctor for your next thyroid check? Make sure that you mention the changes that you have noticed with your periods if you have concerns. Keep taking your prescriptions as they are prescribed. You could also call your doctor's office and speak with the nurse about the lack of a period ... it could be due to all of the hormonal fluctuations you have going on right now. If you are concerned about possible pregnancy, then do a test to set your mind at ease.

Sometimes, it takes you being on a level dose of thyroid replacement hormone for a period of time, and having your thyroid levels stabilized, before you will see things start to 'settle down' in to a more predictable routine. It sure did with me.

Best wishes.

As a guy I have no idea on the medical facts. But, my daughter has been on a bit of a medical odyssey recently with thyroid meds. She ended up at an Endocrinologist to get things sorted out. Your regular doc should be your first source of info, but he/she may not have enough expertise.
