I have no idea what a bunch of these threads are about in SS.
Geek, I am.
So I"m thinking I should get in line with the rest of the world.
Help out a loser.
What's even a good program to watch?
I barely watch any TV; I watch Coronation Street religiously, and that's it.
I see snippets here and there at my mother's, I hear people discuss the shows...
That's why topics of celebrities bore me to tears, and when people compare real life situations to ER or Dr. Whoever (that doctor show that everyone is watching), Dr. Grey? It makes me crazy...I've never seen it.
I"m not saying I think I am missing anything, because I don't think so but it does make me unable to do small talk. LOL
A scramble is a free climb to the top of the mountain. Usually no ropes. But you go in pairs or 4 people. Hike beyond the tree line. To the peak. I have done only 4. It's not very safe.
It's not like scaling a wall, gosh no. There is a trail of sorts... you just kinda zig zag your way up the rocks, go up the side. Most have a notebook in a plastic tube and a pencil. So you write your name down and put it back.
Yup, I have climbed to the top, and been so scared I puked. Getting up is okay. Getting down takes some courage!!
Best hiking trip was also the scariest.
Wasootch Peak.
It rained on us. Me and two guys. Made it to the top.
I love lightning storms. But have never stood on top of a mountain when it's doing this!!
So we could not go back down the way we came up. Everything was wet slippery steep rocks. To get to the back ridge... slide down feet first, stomach pressed against the rocks, to a ledge. Creep along the ledge to the scree slope of the peak.
It was here that my buddy ran up to me, snapped a picture, and ran AWAY from me. Didn't think much of it. Til I saw the pic later.
My hair was all standing up! Ligtning rod.
Coming down scree is fun. But not if you are wearing shorts, and do not have "gators" (leg protectors). Scree is the loose sharp rocks, 3 feet deep, on the top of some mountains. About 45 degree angle getting down. step, slide, step, slide.
Found a waterfall on the way back down. Bushwhacking the whole way. Bear shet. Turned over rocks. Helicopter buzzed us twice.
Come out the road a looong ways from where the truck was parked. Found a ranger in the parking lot. They were tracking a bear, who was tracking US, and the heli was trying to scare the bear off. They were closing off the area, and found our truck there.
Took 4 stitches in my knee. Which promptly got infected. Cut it pretty bad on the scree when I fell.
But I have that pic of my hair standing up!!!
Bears in general. I live near the Rockies. Grizzly territory. They are more afraid of us, and will run away from people. I have seen lots of signs of bears, but never seen one hiking.
Once.. halfway up black prince cirque (hike to a high elevation where there is a glacier lake) group ahead of us came back down and reported there was a grizzly eating berries. We all turned around and called it quits.
Saw a grizzly from the car, it was crossing the highway and walked over the barrier like it was a twig. It was huge!
see black bears all the time south of the rockies. Usually with babies. Immediately go the other direction. I'm in their space, and shouldn't be there.
When hiking, we look for cow parnip plants, berries, signs of rubbed trees, overtuned rocks, footprints in mud, broken trees, and you make noise when going around corners, or into meadows.

who cares about small talk about tv? ....I'd much rather hear about your hiking adventures!
Bleh, I think I am feeling different lately.
I go through stages where I want to spend more time with friends. Nobody seems to do anything I do.
Yes, I'm boring. I'm more inclined to take the dogs for a hike than I am to go to a bar and drink. And what to talk about? I don't watch tv, I'd rather talk about life, about what I learned recently, what I want to do in the future, funny things my dogs did. Make jokes about people (not meanly).
People have lots of drinking stories. I have hiking stories. Female friends collect shoes. I collect backpacks.
Friends are happy when they get tickets to weird yuppy things. I'd rather watch tv LOL than go to those things.
Odd duck out. Quack quack.
I wouldn't necessarily classify myself as "outdoorsy" but I'd LOVE to hear of your stories and converse if I was sitting across from you. Maybe it's time to expand your circle to others with more common interests?
One more thought.
What am I doing wrong in my life that I don't have the time to watch these shows? Seriously. By the time I do everything I need to do in a day, I have about 30 minutes before bedtime.
How much free time do you have in an evening? Just curious.
We only watch tv for 30mins/60mins tops of an evening. Sometimes we'll wait for a rainy afternoon at home and have a 'session' catching up with a favorite show such as Game of Thrones.
We're more inclined to listen to music. Our record player is hooked up again and the vinyl is being enjoyed once more. We like going to record stores together, either for new records or 2nd hand; sharing in the music and conversing about all sorts. Music is more of a constant in our home than tv.
would you rather be stuck in the outback with Ray Mears or Bear Grylls?
I think the hardest part would be convincing anybody that you could actually get "stuck" in the outback with either one! Unless you mean "stuck" in the biblical sense!...that emoticon is somehow unsettling.lol
My mom is the same way she would rather talk about real life. But her life is very closed off. She and I can talk about the news but that's about it.
I was telling my husband I had heard jerry springer was fake now and blah blah blah, and we really got into this deep political, moral, psychological, societal view on teen preg, cheating, and how incest came to be.
It went on for quite a while. No yelling just a outta nowhere discussion.
I told my mom the same thing and she said all that stuff is just junk. I asked her if you could learn from it..."No".
I thought she just wasn't interested in that certain topic. I have brought up bridezillas, she never saw the show and just said she dosent understand what the deal is...after the wedding things will calm down.
My husband and I have debated over this show. In a good way.
My mom likes to talk about books, we don't read the same things-she likes sci-fi but not the channel because it's stupid.
She's not married, dosent understand the importance of shoes. Is having a tough time with food--I love food. She isn't the least bit interested in doing or wearing anything that draws attention to her. And thinks my reading choice is immature.
So we could have tv, but we don't. Not even movies. Our conversations are so boring that I oft forget what I was even saying.
We can talk about weather but I haven't seen weather channel in a while. We also don't agree on music, she dosent see the point in listening to J-pop or K-pop. You don't even know what they are saying. She did like burning eyes till she found out it was from a video game.
But I think if you have an activity and a group from the activity to talk to, thats not too shabby.
and will be watching Simon Schama's Shakespeare next week
but that's it - my daughter tried to get me to watch Jersey Shore the other week, jesus wept. I just don't need to be reminded that there are people out there like that thanks, I'd rather live in blissful ignorance
