Ha ha guy... did you even read? Our son was messing with the dvd player.. and overheated with age? In a month? Yeah... no.. We've kept the dvd player in the kid's room since we got it. It's for THEM not me or H.. THEM... helps keep THEM in their room when H and I want some alone time. And as for the xbox.. umm... I doubt we will get THAT anytime soon... we will probably just end up getting another 20 dollar dvd player.. lmao and eh.. H already tried to fix it lmao. Didn't work.. so.. his plans are to buy another when we can afford it.

lol H already checked, cleaned it out, cleaned the lense, ect.. it just doesn't turn on anymore... and it doesn't "look" like any of the wires or anything is damaged.... so who knows...

You won't be able to tell if one of the flat black or silver chips blew unless you check it with a voltage meter (ohm setting) and compare the output to what the chip says. More than likely either something was spilled on it or it overheated (left on too long, smothered, inadequate air circulation). Better off buying a new one.

It could have an internal circuit breaker tripped or a blown fuse mounted on the board somewhere. Most likely though the transformer-inverter blew just like it does on a desktop PC eventually.
Not worth fixing unless it's a high end BluRay with internet.
Consumer electronics typically have a bi-modal failure probability in the field. There's an initial burp of field units that break right away then the rate attenuates until it peaks again a few years in the future where it continues to climb.
Except Xbox360's which have something like a fairly constant 11% field failure rate. It's a complex problem from a combination of heat overload that causes both the chips to burn out AND causes the surface mounts between chips and the board to separate. There's a really weird third problem caused by a form factor problem where the GPU attachment anchors, working as designed, caused the motherboard to flex in 3 dimensions until they distort enough to break connections between the GPU and the surface mount.
