drving from one end of town to take the kids to the dollar movie...i don't know if i was speeding, i didn't have my seatbelt on, anyway, i get pulled over...here's how it went
officer: "do you know how fast you were going?"
me: "unfortunately i don't. about the flow of traffic best i can tell."
officer: "driving kinda wrecklessly weren't you?"
me: "again, i'm not sure. what exactly am i being pulled over for officer?"
officer: "i think you know the basic traffic rules of this state sir."
me: "yes, but which one am i being pulled over for? ut would certainly make me a better driver if i learned what violation i was stopped for, don't you think?"
officer: dead quiet.
understand, i did not receive a citation, just this bizarre warning stop. as of right now, i don't know what law i was violating. hey i know, the traffic code is huge. i also know it's my responsibility to know the laws if i am going to drive. but i honestly had no idea why i was pulled over. and the officer wouldn't tell me. how would you handle this situation?
btw- the movie we went to see was almost 17. it's a modern day almost remake of "it's a wonderful life" and the kids loved it.
Gee! That sounds like some of the bizarre stuff that happens to me. Are you sure it was a real cop? Something weird like that happened to by stbx eight or nine years ago. The entire episode didn't make sense, so we made a few phone calls. It turns out it wasn't a cop. It was a high school kid playing one. Boy! That kid got in some trouble! Anyway, stop doing WHATEVER you were doing!!!

yeah, that's the feeling i got...stop whatever you are doing. but i was not doing anything. and if it was a speed violation, tell me. i'm a big boy and can take it.
that does seem strange. i dont know what i would have done. ive only been pulled over once and i just started crying. lol. i dont think id ever ask the cop what i was doing wrong- id just assume it was something and hand him my liscense. guess i should be more careful.
He was trying to make you confess to anything. Cops LOVE confessions. I bet he was having a bad day and needed a perk up. Thats why I zip it everytime now. You did the right thing.

hey, as far as i know, i WAS doing the right thing. at least none of the wrong things. i kinda wanted to know if the cop even knew why he was pulling me over. or get an admission that he was pulling me over for no reason, or his own reason.
fyi-i was driving a REAL FAST, pretty flashy car, but was not driving one mph over the speed limit. stayed in my lane, etc. maybe the car intimidated some fellow drivers, idk.
Reminds me of a time I got pulled over about 11 years ago...my memory maybe sketchy on the actual back and forth, but the general idea is there.
It was about 1 am, I was returning home from waiting tables (job I had while in college), and it was late because I closed.
cop: Liscense and registration please.
me: Here you are sir. (he leaves to go to his car and returns like 10 minutes later).
cop: Did you know your liscense plates are expired?
me: Um, sir they are not expired.
cop: Yes they are.
me: Sir, my plates expire in September (car was in my dad's name).
cop: Yes, and this is the 10th month.
me: Sir, this is August.
cop: (dead silence for a few seconds) Well, you are out past curfew.
me: Sir, this is getting rediculous, if you actually looked at my liscense you would see that I am 19 years old, and curfew only applies to minors. I just got off work, am going home to get to bed since I have class tomorrow morning, and you were just bored. Can I go home now?
cop: No need to get snotty son, I can still take you in.
me: Take me in? You haven't even told me what you pulled me over for besides false charges like curfew and plate expirations. Its really not that hard to read the date on the plate or on my age from my driver's liscense birthdate is it?
cop: Watch it son, I'll give you a warning this time.
He followed me the whole way home from there like the prick he was.
That was the ONLY time in my whole driving career that I have smarted off to an officer. I am 100% respectful when I get pulled over due to the stuff that police officers go through at times (life on the line, etc).
He followed me the whole way home from there like the prick he was.
yeah, i get the feeling i'm being followed every day, even when i KNOW i'm driving COMPLETELY within the laws, i'm a little apprehensive. and i know i can't be driving at my best when i'm being eyeballed for no reason. glad to see the software isn't asterisking out the word prick here, because i think prick is the words i'd chose to. is it his authority he's flaunting? i don't believe so. is it his pseudo altruistic nature? possibly. i'm gonna keep driving and maybe i'll get pulled over again, and maybe he'll give me an indication of what i'm doing next time.
I got pulled over once. Taking my son to his ortho appointment. Said i was speeding....but I just had looked down and I was definately doing the limit. He didn't even ask for my insurance card.....so...he just tells me to slow down...didn't even tell me how fast he thought I was going.
Turns out....there was a road block...many more cops up ahead. They were looking for someone in a car like mine....weird....but true.
One time I was driving home from a bar down the Jersey Shore with my wife and a friend. Anyway it was late and I was tired, so I was speeding (I was sober) anyway I got pulled over by a female cop, Soon as she got to the car, I handed her my license and registration and Insurance card. She commented, " I guess you done this before?" I replied, "Oh no ma'mam My brother is a (NJ) State Trooper." with a a look on her face she said, "here you go slow down." I replied, "yes, ma'mam"
MY brother who is a state trooper told me, he will always ask a question if the person tells him the truth he will give a warning, if they BS him he writes a ticket.
He once pulled over a lady who argued with him. After he gave her the ticket, she crumpled it up threw it on the ground, then drove off. He then got back in his car, pulled her over again, gave her another speeding ticket, A failure to signal, wreckless driving (she drove of while he was standing next to the car) and Littering.
As with life choose your words carefully and your actions.
