Automatic lock for old threads

I think we should have an automatic lock for old threads, to kill the zombie thread syndrome. Maybe something like 6 months without a post and it gets locked.

If we want to get really fancy, then the OP should be able to post but nobody else can. If the OP posts, then the thread is "live" again unless it's moderator locked.

It's a nice idea, Larry, but considering we haven't gotten the 'randomly getting kicked out of the site' issue and the 'why is my signature reverting back to one I changed a month ago' syndrome figured out yet, you may be expecting a lot.

I'm undecided on which pants to wear today -- smarty, fancy or sassy?

And what's with the FNG resurrecting a half-dozen or more threads today?

Rookies.

Re: Automatic lock for old threads

I guess I am weird, I am not at all bothered when those things happen, sometimes someone may come back here and resurrect their own story on the same thread.. or it's someone new, the issue is so similar to THEIRS , & they just want to comment.. not ready to start their own thread - but it gets them in the ball game.

I wouldn't care for the "automatic locking" by the Mods at all.

Though if it's a contention to the Poster themselves.. .I see nothing wrong with THEM having that power....

I would not lock any of mine, I purposely use them in threads here & there -for reference / the subject contained within... no one seems to resurrect them !...But I think that would be sweet - Oh well!

Re: Automatic lock for old threads

Other boards archive all their threads after so many months.

It would be nice if TAM locked old thread, so that people don't post advice to an OP who hasn't been back in years.

Re: Automatic lock for old threads

OTOH, I've seen a couple of 'general' advice/discussion threads that have popped back up, and more people post in them. I'd hate to see those automatically locked. Just because the OP is no longer around doesn't mean that others can't keep them going. (recent case in point: the angry mixtape thread in GTDS)

The ones that are specific to someone's story are different (and really, posters should just look at the dates of the first post and the most recent one before they reply), but we know they don't -- or this thread wouldn't be necessary, lol.

Automatic lock for old threads

I used to be part of TalkBass (musician's forum)... Old thread would take on a different color scheme when opened after say 6 months of activity. I agree with no-automatic locking. Make it feel dated, maybe a sepia color scheme
