Has Technology Made Cheating Easier?

Here is a topic that i would like to see some opinions on. Do you think being in the technology era has made it easier for people to cheat or have "more distractions" versus not having access to computers 30-40 years ago?

Re: Has Technology Made Cheating Easier?

yes - much easier. you used to have to actually leave the house to re-connect with old flames / meet new "friends." now you don't even have to leave the couch to have an EA, talk dirty, sext etc...

Most definitely, especially for more introverted personalities who would never go the old school route to cheat (i.e. having to actually meet people in person such as at a bar, etc...).

Re: Has Technology Made Cheating Easier?

No question it is easier. It is easier to slide into an attachment because people are just that much more connected. People meet online in all kinds of venues from forums to games to interest groups, to Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. Technology also makes it so much easier to stay in contact with an AP. In the old days all we had was a land-line phone in the house. If you wanted to talk to your AP on the phone, one or both of you would be doing so from your own home. They used to say that getting hang-ups when answering the phone was a red flag your spouse was cheating! Nowadays people have all manner of hidden apps on their smart phones, as well as secret cell phones, to carry on communications at all hours.

Cell phones, email, and other electronic communications also provide an excuse that one must have contacts for work reasons or maybe something like a kid's athletic activities.

The flip side is that all these channels also bring risk of detection. We hear all the time about a cheater inadvertently leaving emails open on their computer or receiving a text from their lover which is seen by the spouse. But on balance a savvy cheater probably benefits more rather than risks more due to technology.

Yes it is easier to get into and conduct an affair with modern technology.

Easier to cheat and easier to catch a cheater.

Re: Has Technology Made Cheating Easier?

No much harder. A cheater has to worry about browser history, cloud backups, recovery software, spouse seeing texts, pictures taken from phone, FB posts etc.

Having to purge the laptop, tablet, phone, etc.

Automatic syncs are the killer. With the wrong settings, texts from one device can show up on another or backup to the cloud.

Plus the AP has all the files and texts and can blackmail the WS if the WS tries to break it off.

Mind you, this is all theoretical on my part.

Re: Has Technology Made Cheating Easier?

Absolutely !!!!

Since I remember a time "before" pagers and cell phones some of the stories I've read on this forum have blown me away. I'm constantly amazed at how people carry on affairs.

I guess one way that just blew me away (hey I'm old) was downloading an app in the morning, chatting it up all day and then deleting the app before they go home. Maybe I should get out more but the devious ways of behind the scenes communication are mind boggling.

Absolutely, I think there's been studies indicating that. You have Facebook where old flames can reconnect let alone the hosts of websites made exclusively for cheating ( ****** *******, Tinder, Craigslist hook ups)
On this site there's stories of gamers that find adult clans in games like Clash of Clans where it's a breeding ground for naked pic exchanges then turns into more. I was surprised to hear about that - I mean I know of gamers cheating but I see that commercial all the time for that game - looks perfectly innocent, like a kids game..
I read recently about how tough it is today for the millinial generation to settle down because someone better is always just " one swipe" away.
So terrible!

Boccaccio's "The Decameron" is one hundred stories of hot sheet hustlers and teenage tarts. It was written in 1351. And all of ancient Greek Mythology is one big poontang party.

Re: Has Technology Made Cheating Easier?

intuition would say so.

it is said a lot that cheaters will find a way no matter what, even 1000 years ago.
that is true.

but, there are a good % of people i think who are not necessarily actively looking but stumble into contacts
like FB and online games, et. and get a connection, and..........you know the rest.

As Ellis Redding said, there are a good number of people who do not want to go to bars looking to score, or do not to risk approaching someone at work.
Now, however, with a web search and anonymous flirting you can make that connection.

As to making it easier to be caught, true, but i don't think the cheater thinks about that too much beforehand. only once the hook is in, then they worry.

Re: Has Technology Made Cheating Easier?

It is easier to cheat in some ways, but harder to get away with it.

I find now that phone number exchange comes with providing my full name, to allow me to be checked out on the internet. If I were married, it would be easier to find out. A sailor can no longer have a girl in every port, as it would be easily tracked down.

That said, it is much easier to try.

People are loath to blame economics. We I was in my late 20’s, the men who were married were rare, but those who could afford a house generally were. The assertion was that these were clearly the responsible people, but they rarely got that money by working. The working people in their late 20’s were struggling to makes ends meet and therefore not a good marriage prospect.

If we get to the situation where people in their 20’s are earning similar wages to people in their 40’s, I imagine the average age of marriage will plummet.

Re: Has Technology Made Cheating Easier?

Definitely easier to meet someone, even reconnect with people you already know by Facebook. There's lot of cheaters websites out there to. With all, this technology it's also much easier to get caught.

Re: Has Technology Made Cheating Easier?

Technology makes EVERYTHING easier, including cheating, accessing porn, hooking up with old flames, getting sexy with someone you've never met before, and pretending to be someone you aren't.

People don't get a free pass to cheat just because their marriage sucks.

Re: Has Technology Made Cheating Easier?

I would say it has made cheating more simple.

Being more simple does not necessarily translate into being easier

example, using a dolly to move a heavy box makes it significantly more simple to move from point a to point b. However, it doesn't make it easier to unload said heavy box from truck or get it up stairs or even getting said heavy box through a doorway.

So, while technology has made it simple for a cheater to connect up with some random POS, they still need to "work" at sneaking around to hook up with said POS.

People just do the strangest things when they believe they're entitled.
But they do even stranger things when they just plain believe.
