Guys often dont. Its not a failing, its just life. No worries. Chances are shes wondering the same as you.

Trust me on this one. If shes not materialistic, DON’T buy expensive stuff. We HATE that.

Why not just ask her? “Honey, i love you and want our first anniversary to be just right. How can i make it special/best for us? Im not a mind reader but i want it to be memorable. “

Try that approach? She may tell you. Depends on the woman.

Some may like a charm bracelet because memorable times can be captured. Some may like a homemade card, picnic somewhere special. Some may like handpicked flowers, a dinner at home. A trip to the place you first met/kissed/proposed.

Though you may have given me an idea, I could buy her a watch.
Did you get her the watch? Engraving the back is a nice touch.

I had another idea for you - not that I've received/given this (yet) - a photo collage of you both/your family.
Easy to whip one up online, get delivered framed or on canvas.

I once got a dryer. I was happy to receive it with two babies and bales of laundry to do. I was so thankful.

However, my aunty who is big on celebrating everything with gifts of flowers and jewelry, was not happy. She gave my husband a talking to and he was very embarrassed about his gift and went out to get me an eternity band.

I kept them both. And told him it didn't matter to me. The dryer made me happier than the diamonds and I used it over 10 years. The ring is sitting in a box. I dont care for diamonds.

Same here. Thought the 20th would have been different. It was, in the sense it took about a year before I saw some evidence she had opened her gift.

Any gift suggestions?
First anniversary is supposed to be PAPER anniversary.

Even though that sounds cheap, paper could include theater tickets, etc.

A gift certificate for a day of pampering...facial, mani/pedi, massage etc. Then a nice planned evening out for dinner and...I'll leave the "and" up to you. Get a sitter and go to a hotel so you can both really relax and enjoy without worrying about your daughter in the next room.

@Andy1001 the photo book is a great idea!

Wife had professional boudoir photos done and made into a book for me one year. She snuck off to Austin and lied to me to get it all done right haha! I love it. Why don't you get all sexy and make a boudoir book for her

In all seriousness the family photo book is great. Write some stories to her on each page with an accompanying picture. What you thought of her when you first met with a pic of you two early on. Why you proposed on the next page with a pic of wedding stuff, things like that. Next page, how amazing she is as a mother, with pics of the family.

Guarenteed thats a heart melter. Sheesh I need to do this myself!

If my devils are to leave me, I'm afraid my angels will take flight as well.

Same as every year . . . . sex and a sweater . . . . both too big.
JK
We were married in august and as a result have spent quite a few of our anniversaries camping at family reunions. Once the kids got old enough they camped with cousins and we had a remote campsite to ourselves.

The worst was a heating pad, the kind you find on the shelf in the pharmacy.

The best was a new engagement ring.

Best, we both chose, a 12 day trip to Oahu and Kauai for our 30th. Can't say I've had bad ones (and I don't think she would either).

Re: What is the best/worst anniversary present you have received?

I do not require a gift for the anniversary. My W gets me one anyway. Whatever it may be, it is always nice. However, a nice dinner just the two of us or perhaps a weekend away are always my favorite. I'm good with that. However, I do get my wife a piece of jewelry.
