Climate Change

I was going to look up the local mayor's efforts to get kids to skip school and go to the climate change activities. I was listening to the radio and the host said he didn't think it was right for children to go on this excursion without parental approval. He said no permission slips were passed out for the parents to sign. If the kids got hurt, who would be responsible? He felt it was an ******* move. He wanted the mayor to call and talk to him about it. I don't know if that happened.

Instead, I wondered what gave mayors the idea that they could do this without fear. I found this.

Educators
Teach students about climate change and ecosystems
Use the teacher resources on EPA's Students Guide to Global Climate Change.

Engage middle school students in estimating emissions
Enhance critical-thinking skills by introducing the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Calculator to middle school students. The online calculator lists 16 easy actions students can take to save energy, and calculates the reductions in carbon dioxide emissions. The calculator also features links to more information explaining the links between everyday actions and carbon pollution, and providing additional tips for kids who want to do more.

Learn from other educators
Investigate what other schools and organizations are doing to educate their audiences on climate change by viewing Additional Web Resources, a database offering links to resources such as lesson plans, videos, books, and toolkits.
Household Carbon Footprint Calculator
Educators can work with students to calculate their impact using the kid’s climate change calculator. In addition, they can encourage students to work with their families and use EPA's household carbon footprint calculator for a more customized and flexible estimate of their household's emissions.

Administrators
Save money and the environment
The least efficient schools use three times more energy than the best energy performers. By partnering with the highly successful ENERGY STAR for K-12 School Districts and using Portfolio Manager to track and rate the energy performance of their portfolio of school buildings, school districts can serve as environmental leaders in their community, become energy-efficient, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and save money! If you're considering a new building, EPA's voluntary School Siting Guidelines can provide tips for reducing climate and health impacts.

Estimate your emissions and take the challenge
School administrators can also work to reduce their school's greenhouse gas emissions by developing an inventory Exit of their school's emissions or by taking the College & University Green Power Challenge.

Reduce, reuse, recycle
Recycle school or classroom paper, newspapers, beverage containers, electronic equipment, and batteries. Reducing, reusing, and recycling at school and in the classroom helps conserve energy and reduces pollution and greenhouse gases from resource extraction, manufacturing, and disposal. You can reduce, reuse, and recycle at school or in the classroom by using two-sided printing and copying, buying supplies made with recycled content, and recycling used printer cartridges. For your old electronics, donate used equipment to other organizations, or investigate leasing programs to ensure that used equipment is reused and recycled.
Is adopting the Green New Deal a foregone conclusion? This is truly frightening folks.

How much will it cost?

Quote:
According to an eye-popping PJ Media analysis based on a new report from Power the Future, the "Green New Deal" proposed by democratic socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) would cost more than 8,000 times as much as President Donald Trump's border wall.
The "Green New Deal" will cost approximately $49.109 trillion in the first ten years, enough to fund Trump's border wall 8,616 times over. The president is requesting $5.7 billion for the wall.
PJ Media calculated the cost of the "Green New Deal" by integrating each of the cost aspects involved in a Power the Future analysis and calculating their cost for the U.S. over about ten years — and in one case through 2050.
According to Ocasio-Cortez, the "Green New Deal" will force America to transition to an economy run from 100 percent renewable energy. Christopher Clark, a physicist who has studied rapid deployments of renewable energy, told The Hill that building this kind of generating capacity would cost "at least $2 trillion."

Re: Climate Change

What an incredible crock of political crap this whole pantomime is!

Joseph Goebbels would be proud of how successful his philosophy has become.

“If you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it, and you will even come to believe it yourself.”

“A lie told once remains a lie but a lie told a thousand times becomes the truth”

“Propaganda works best when those who are being manipulated
are confident they are acting on their own free will.”

“The masses need something that will give them a thrill of horror.”

“If you tell a lie, tell a big one.”

Re: Climate Change

How do you feel about these children never having to let their parents know what they were doing and being carted off from school to attend the 'educational' events?

Technically speaking it might constitute kidnapping.

And this is a definition of "teach critical thinking skills" that will not be supported by any dictionary.

Re: Climate Change

To change society you must first indoctrinate the youth.
Indoctrinate them (or slow-poison them) with harmful ideas.

Certain religions are bad, conservatives are evil. Old people are dumb.

Hitler did it.
Stalin did it.
Mussolini did it.
Pol Pot did it.
Mao did it.
Shining Path did it.
All those child soldiers in Africa.

Yes, Sparta did it, and likely were the first communists!

This part stood out to me. They are encouraged to think critically about what they are forced to believe.

Re: Climate Change

What do you have to say about using kids to promote their agendas?
What mass extinctions are happening at this moment and how are they caused by 'climate change'?

Re: Climate Change

2nt,

Do you work for an oil, gas or coal company?

And whether or not you do:
- Do you believe that there is some vast global conspiracy to lie about rising temperatures
- To take pictures of all the melting ice

Or instead do you accept the facts as presented by NOAA etc. but disagree with the causes?

If you are just going to mock it all, what point is there in pointing you to information? Anything that would be provided would be dismissed (like everything else being referenced here), so why take the time.

A 2 second google search of 'climate change mass extinction' will give you loads of hits to scientific papers, journals, publications, projections and theories from various sources. You will dismiss them all because 'liberal conspiracy', so who really gives a crap, right?

Also, she isn't 'a kid' there is another thread on this board where people are talking about letting 15 year olds have sex with adults, because they are mature. However, a 16 year old cannot have an opinion on climate change? Using a child, what a crock.

This whole thread is a big circle jerk of climate deniers patting each other on the back.

Re: Climate Change

Yes, the climate is changing, it always has, and has done so, with or without humans.

Greenery loves CO2, the more there is the more of it gets taken in.

The real problem is the fact that we have is....

6.5 billion people. They all want the good life.

And some Earthlings want to tell other Earthlings what they can have and have not.

Our vehicles are powered by gasoline which comes from oil in the ground.

There is no viable, practical substitute for gasoline at this point in time.

Yet, some Earthlings want to cut off the supply. This will crash economies and people will then starve.

What is worse, mass starvation or less CO2 in the atmosphere. If the ice caps are melting and coastal cities are at risk, what is the best solution?

Uh, not cutting off most means of transportation (cars, trucks) , so people cannot get to work. The United States is too large and vast, public transportation is not efficient.

The powers to be allowed rail to dwindle away to almost nothing. Leaving trucks and planes to deliver our goods.

No work, no salary.
No salary, people cannot buy food, yes, they starve and then they riot.

Oh, only in the West. The Chinese and the Indians, they do not 'have' to participate.

If the Western economies collapse, Russia and China will laugh their asses off over our 'stupidity'.
And then take over, killing the millions who live off the lands.

The solution is to find a better power source. And a 'much' better battery. Batteries that can be charged up by the Sun in the vast deserts.
And then shipped back and forth, to the consumer, then back out to the sunlit deserts to be recharged.

And to build up our military to the max so that we survive the next Greatest War.
It is coming.

Avoid the small battles, we must protect our own interests, and our GOOD allies, only!

We need to be Nationalists, with keeping our country strong and in first place. Any other solution is naive' and is doomed from the start.

Major war is on the Horizon. Climate changers and soft and kind nice guys and gals will be the first killed.

It has always been this way. And always will. Well, it likely will stay this backwards way, for eons.

There might be good socialists, but there are no good communists. And communists always overthrow those educated nice guys and gals.

Oh, I know Fascists are dangerous also.

This is our human condition.

We can work well in small tribes, not so well when tribes try to compete with each other for scarce resources.

Re: Climate Change

Ok, so we will mark Sun down as not worrying about climate change, because we will all freeze in nuclear winter.

Rather than work on how to make it better, lets just be the biggest and we can take what we want when it his the fan, great philosophy.

Before I feel guilty for driving my Toyota, I'll need China and India to match N. America and European emission outputs.

I ignore children (Thunberg) being exploited by handlers.

Considering we have 5x emissions per capita compared to India and 2-3x that of China, I guess you will be driving that Toyota today?

Re: Climate Change

Religion has been part of education for a long time. Its just a new religion.

Climate change is of course real (human actions of course influence climate to some extent) and is likely to have significant impact on humans, but most of the *discussion* of climate change are ideology / religion based on both sides.

Unfortunately the journal papers are too complex for anyone outside of the field to read. The IPCC web site is terrible - their predictions are now so fuzzy as to be useless. I spent a while and could not decypher their predictions of the predicted impact of existing emissions policies in 2100.

With no solid information out there that is accessible to the public, lots of politicians make all sorts of wild claims.

I'll take climate alarmists more seriously when they agree to divert $100B from the Hanford site cleanup to developing clean energy.

The people denying climate change can't be taken seriously at all since there is change - as measured by CO2, sea levels, water temperature, air temperature etc. I'll take them seriously when they predict the economic effects of the climate changes estimated by scientists.

I don't think climate is the most serious problem facing the world right now anyway. The collapse of expertise / knowledge / trust I find far more worrisome. .
