Don't leave, please!

I'm not sure that the politics board is a full representation of the TAM forums generally.

Answering some of the crazy right wing claims made in some of these threads seems counterproductive - raising the profile of them.
The same 4-5 people make the same tired arguments.

Pretty broad brush.
I explained above - when I googled for this state of emergency, the first thing I found (I think it might have been NPR) seemed to be indicating that white nationalism was a big part of the reason for this.

And as indicated above, if this was incorrect, then I stand corrected.

What disturbs me specifically is how these political leanings seem to spill out into the broader TAM. Things like gender politics, sexual politics, **** shaming, gender roles, etc.

It's becoming an echo chamber here that feels very much like an idealized Rockwell version of middle America in the 50's, which never really existed, and even if it did, it's profoundly outdated today.

Neither is the left's war against the 2nd amendment.

This has the potential to spill far outside the confines of Virginia.

All of you leftwingers wouldn't have to use semantics and hyperbole if the people you vote for would abide by the Constitution. Marduk I know you can't vote in the US, so that isn't directed at you.
There have already been accounts of antifa being bussed in (7 buses as of Sat. night) with some wearing MAGA hats and NRA shirts. This whole thing is a staged trap. I expect there will be some altercations, but I also expect if you arrest the instigators and check their voting record it won't be right-leaning.

The Virginia House Republican leader had this to say: “Any group that comes to Richmond to spread white supremacist garbage, or any other form of hate, violence, or civil unrest isn’t welcome here.”
“House Republicans reject any attempt by any group to infuse any kind of twisted or extreme worldview into this fundamentally democratic exercise,” Gilbert’s statement continued. “So there’s no mistake, this is my message to any group that would subvert this event: you are not welcome here.”

It completely astounds me that some portray a protest of a complete violation of numerous constitutional amendments as a bad thing. Lobby day is an annual event, it happens every year. This year just happens to be a big deal because Northam has decided to violate the rights of the citizens of the Great Commonwealth and put up cages and fencing to create a facade of fear. This is a trial run for them, don't think for a second this is an isolated case.
I wish I could like this twice.

I'm still trying to get to grips with one's need to

1. Carry a loaded assault rifle with you shopping.

2. Keep a silencer on hand.

3. Let people carry firearms onto an airplane.

Insult and demean - your go to for anyone that has a different view or opinion than you. Your views and opinions are the only ones that are correct I assume.

For the record, I agree that the politics section of TaM has gone off the rails right wing over time. But do you really want the mods policing people's political opinions?

TaM's always been an echo chamber. The echos just change sometimes.

I know I don't.

Furthermore, the suggestion that political speech should be curtailed, when it isn't even 'hate speech', is exactly what concerns me.

Liberal-leaning people used to be the guardians of free thought and expression from the oppressive right.

When did that script flip?

If this was what it was actually about, there would not be people in the streets protesting...at least, not in such significant numbers.

Each of the bullet statements are red herrings.

What is this demonstration specifically about?

I don't think the script has flipped. I think the extremes on both sides have met in the middle on the other side of the circle.
