Favorite or most memorable compliment

What is the most memorable or favorite compliment that has been given to you?

Think back through all of those compliments you've received throughout your life. Work, romantic relationships, family....is there one compliment that stuck with you long after it was given? Is there a recurring compliment that you receive regularly.

Cool Re: Favorite or most memorable compliment

After reffing a hard fought high school football playoff game, in a down to the wire game, an assistant coach from one of the teams in it, complimented me many years later at an honorary banquet, telling me that, "Mr. Arbitrator ~ whenever you're out there refereeing one of our games, I really feel God's presence!

That comment said it all and made my 41 years in the avocation seem so worthwhile!

When my wife and I were dating a group of us were drinking one night at a party and the subject of hall passes came up.
My wife said George Michael who incidentally was gay and dead!
I said Charlize Theron.
One of the guys picked Emma Watson.
His wife picked me!
That party came to a sudden end lol.

Did you crickets after that one?

That's what we here in the south call "going over like a fart in church".

Compliments are nice to hear. It's a type of kindness offered that allows us to look deep into the widows of the soul

Re: Favorite or most memorable compliment

My favorite compliment these days is when someone says that I have my **** together, especially when it comes from a man. I think i'ts because I'm at a point in my life where I'd rather have a man's respect than his infatuation.

To be honest my wife is probably the least insecure woman Iíve ever met. She thought it was hilarious and I couldnít get the grin off my face but the other womanís husband wasnít pleased and insisted on leaving.
They stopped hanging around with the group after that and the subject was never mentioned again.
As far as Iím aware they are still together.

True. Would you say all compliments bear the same weight? So for example, is a compliment about something you acknowledge more memorable/impactful than say a compliment about something you would have never considered as a positive about yourself?

p.s. It is also important to graciously accept and thank people for their compliments. Thank you Dudelebowski for the nice compliment on the avatar.

Every compliment has the same weight. They are all light touch, little passing moments. The weight they carry is their ability to change someone's life in an instant. It's just a numbers game then at this point. Give as many as you can, you will see at least one life change. The windows in your avatar indeed.

Re: Favorite or most memorable compliment

I had just finished a 5k last year where I won money. A young girl...maybe 20.....was handing out cupcakes. She looked at me and said "when I get older I want a body like THAT".

Also, I got a FB message from a girl I went to elementary school with. Apparently I'd given her a necklace and had been very kind. She said that after all these years she still remembered my kindness and it had meant a lot to her.

TBH I only vaguely remember her, but I'm happy she remembers me this way. It goes to show how you never know how you impact people so try to show kindness regularly.

Not a lot that you can do when you're sitting in the audience at your dinner table, and you've already been up to the podium to receive an Honorary Lifetime Achievement Award from the Football Coaches Association, and then you're one of the 300+ to hear this coaches remark; the only way to effectively respond is only with a gentle smile, tears welling up in your eyes, and a humongous lump in your throat!

And then murmuring to yourself an inaudible and most thankful "Thank you, Lord!"

The coach and I did embrace after the banquet, with me tearfully telling him, "Now Coach! You do know that can go to Hell for lying, don't you?"

My favorites are when someone Iím just getting to know tells me that Iím intelligent. Not they like didnít think I was to begin with, but in the course of conversations we have I say something that really makes them think or just surprises them.

A recent one is that Dude has told me he can see Iím making a difference with my sunny attitude and patience. That one felt great.

A hilarious one was my first husband. We met while both working at JC Penny. He was talking to me at work and kind of flirting with me, leading up to asking me out. He said ďYou have pretty long eyelashes. Like a cow.Ē We both busted up laughing! He wasnít actually trying to be funny, he just didnít consider the implication of comparing me to a cow before it came out his mouth.

Other great ones are just simple moments Iíve had with my kids when they express how much they love me, how much support they feel, stuff like that. Now that they are adults they really understand in retrospect the ways my parenting made them have good self esteem and always knew they were loved.

Interesting how men and women feel differently about that type of compliment. Something similar to this has happened to me a couple of times, and it made me feel weird and uncomfortable.

Re: Favorite or most memorable compliment

Another I want to mention is @tech-novelist and some of the ways he has been supportive of me here. He and I are so opposite on most issues that I think it a compliment to both of us that we have been able to really respect each other and beyond that, we just enjoy each other. An unlikely friendship, for sure, but it has meant a lot to me here.
