Re: Post your unpopular opinions

1929 Radio. No FM then - only AM and 2 bands short wave. This radio a premium big deal then - expensive at the time. This one rare. Works. I have source for tubes if anyone needs.

Re: Post your unpopular opinions

My current project... this is not a ham radio, like the rest of the radios my grandfather left me. It's a cheap reciever type, the kind of radio you might listen to music or talks shows on.

I want to make this work again. The problem part is probably the old capacitor. I'll replace it soon enough...

This was another one of my grandfather's radios.

Re: Post your unpopular opinions

I wish I had a picture... but my father has one of these right now: https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/eagle_...al_neut_b.html

I didnt have room for it, so I asked my father to hang on to it until I do. He is using it as a display piece in his living room. It was another one of the radios that my grandfather left to me. I have an amature extra ham radio license, which is a big part of the reason my grandfather wanted me to have his old radios. I love them. The only thing that could be better than recieving them would be being able to to pick my grandfather's brain, like I used to. I used to love talking to him about radios and RF theory...

His father, my great grand father, worked for Arthur Collins, the founder of Collins radio company. Somehow, he ended up with this thing... http://imgur.com/gallery/FwnIGR9

The insane part, to me, is that my grandfather made sure everything he owned was working before he stored it. All of the tubes on every piece of electronics he had worked before he stored them The eagle radio we have works. Nowadays, that's extremely rare, being from the 20s...

I really want to keep these things working...

Not a radio, but another old piece of communications equipment that I inherited from my grandfather: http://imgur.com/gallery/OedVQHU

14 years of progress between these radios. The one on the left is the current project I mentioned earlier.

The one on the right is the one that my girlfriend and I fixed this past weekend. Hard to believe it's already half a century old...

Yes, if you add in the part about paying zero taxes, then almost everyone would agree. However, I don't think being well-off is inherently reprehensible. And nearly all the taxes are paid by well-off people.

I didn't know that, thank you. It seems like a poorly chosen name. I had assumed that "flat" meant one rate for everyone.

Yeah, I once gave a family member a sum of money that they could have lived off for about ten years or more, while they got back on their feet. A six figure sum. Boy, they made that disappear in about two years, you can imagine how. But I think the issue was, they couldn't bear to think of themselves as having any money. It ran contrary to their idea of themselves. It felt disloyal to the "poverty" that they held close to their heart. They actually grew up well off. Making themselves poor was a way to get back at their parents. Just as for some people, making themselves rich is a **** you to someone.

Re: Post your unpopular opinions

I have to try rye whiskey. I'm afraid it is sweet.

That old-fashioned looks good.

I think the Steelers will be lucky to win today.

I love a good rye whiskey. It's much smoother than bourbon. Actually, I don't find it sweet, although the sweet vermouth added to the mix does sweeten it up. If it ever gets actually cold here, I'll make an old fashioned. LOVE the drink.

It appears he got benched. Maybe he has a future in wrestling ...

I refuse to make anyone a priority in my life who considers me nothing more than an option.

lol That's funny.

I was hoping he'd get benched. They played better without him.

Smoother than bourbon? I'll try to get a little airplane bottle from the state store. Sounds like it will be worth it.
