Boys with pocket-knives at school. Rifles and shotguns on racks in trucks in the high school parking lot during deer season. No walkie-talkies anywhere to be seen in the halls.

And eight tracks! We had an eight track adapter for our tape player in my dads butterscotch and wood paneled station wagon lol! That thing was huge with an eight track inserted lol!

On another note, riding around in the back of that station wagon with all the seats folded down sliding around on the metal surface with every corner dad took and giving the air horn arm signal to all the truckers and getting a honk in return lol!

Playing outside. It's a lost art.

My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

Girls not being allowed to wear pants at school or at work.

I could give up chocolate but I'm not a quitter.

Damn leec, you are on a roll recently.

Off the top of my head:

-video rentals
-rotary phone
-playing with a slinky
-polaroid camera
-sony walkman
-riding your bike with friends all day and feeling safe (and parents not freaking out).

Wow, I remember that! Went to a Catholic grade school, no pants allowed for girls.

Going back to when I was a kid, which was a long time ago,we used to make a lot of our own things to keep ourselves amused. Anything and everything. Bows and arrows... we'd use bottle caps for arrowheads. Playing potsies with marbles. I can't remember how many times we built a soapbox and all the scrounging we had to do to get all the parts... especially wheels, lol. That's just a few.

During the school year: Playing outside until sundown or until I was called in for dinner. In the winter coming inside just long enough for my toes to warm up, then heading back out to sled a few blocks from home.

Going to the playground in my neighborhood with my bag of marbles hoping to find someone to play with. (Most of my competitors were boys, lol.)

All the stores being closed on Sundays. Three television channels. Party line phones, each family had a different ring so you knew if the call was for your house or the neighbors.

How about working for 60 cents an hour?

Schools actually displined us. Once I got thrown off the school bus for being bad, we were about 5 miles from my house! Could you imagine that these days? Or when my fifth grade teacher would tie us in our seats with string if we misbehaved. She would take the other kids out to recess and if the string was broken when they came back in she would give you swats. Our parents never considered suing the school when we were punished, they would just give it to you double when you got home.

Having to hide under our desks because of the threat of nuclear war.
