Re: NYE Music for the TAM Surfer

This is a song by David Gates of the band, Bread. It was in the movie, "The Goodbye Girl", from 1977. I remember walking downtown from home at the age of 15 to see this movie. I don't remember much at all about it, but I do remember the song. It's sad and hopeful at the same time. Hope you like it.

Re: NYE Music for the TAM Surfer

I was thinking I neglected the great girl groups and therefore didn't give women their due.

Those are three bands I did like in the eighties who were mainly girls. Never cared for loopie Lauper, though she did have some appeal when I was drinking.

Tons more girl bands. I may post more later.

How've you been, TBT? Sorry, I was off in dream land for a little while listening and didn't check the thread. Only when I can back and refreshed the thread, did I see your post. BRB.

I'm doing okay. Been on a bit of a sabbatical from TAM and the PC in general. Will catch up tomorrow in an email.

Girl groups...?

I lined up some TLC in the car yesterday. Hubs and I were laughing with the lyrics. Gotta love it.

Re: NYE Music for the TAM Surfer

Yeah, @heartsbeating. Then I realized there weren't too many all girl groups or bands. I started looking for songs I like and remembered. There are quite a few. There are a bunch that I can't remember the names of, but actually remember seeing them on MTV back in the eighties. I know I've posted a few of them in the thread somewhere, but it would be tough to find them.

Here's a resource I found. http://digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/be...ts-female.html

Would I Lie to You

Fire and Ice

Cherry Bomb

Back On the Chain Gang

Re: NYE Music for the TAM Surfer

Tonight, a short story.

I went outside to sit on the porch for a few minutes. I saw a girl standing on the sidewalk in front of my apartment. There was a young man with her, not too far away. I wondered what was going on and sat down.

I then heard my neighbors talking. A woman in her thirties walked away from their porch. She walked over toward my apartment carrying a box with something in it.

Her daughter came down with her.

In a moment, they asked if I wanted to buy a candy bar from their box. They had a few different types in there. One was peanut butter cups. Another was chocolate covered wafers. There was strawberry licorice. There were other assorted candy bars I wasn't interested in.

I asked why she was selling them. I expected her to tell me that her daughter was in the girl scouts or some other organization. She didn't.

She told me she needed to make some money. She said she needed to buy a car. She found one for $150.00 that she thought she could use for a little while. I went a dug up $2.00 and paid her for a candy bar.

When I got the money, I got a dollar bill and some change. I counted the change and had a nickel extra. I gave that to the girl and asked her to count it. She did and said there was an extra 5 cents and looked at her mother. I gave her the dollar and her mother said, "Well, give him his change". The girl handed me the nickel and I thanked her.

I thought it was a good test to see if their little story was honest.

Did I do the right thing? Were they being honest? I don't know. I don't know where they got the candy. I figure they probably got it on sale and are making a little on it's sale.

My neighbors bought some, too.

What do you think?

Love all the oldies you post 2nt! The Tymes song made me feel in the moment really good about back then. My days weren't always good in those times and music like that was my getaway. Still snapping my fingers!

Well,as I've gotten older I've become more of a humanist. I don't always want to look at others through the filter of suspicion. Some people fall on hard times and I can attest to that through my own experiences. To me you did the right thing as she may have truly needed a vehicle for something important.
